I’ve always enjoyed the team building events where I got to connect with others on a deeper level.  I can remember a particular event that wasn’t even billed as a team building activity but that had that effect.  We were asked to discuss our perspective on a particular workplace issue.  We all were given the opportunity to talk freely and from the heart.  The facilitator got rid of the noise and interruptions that normally plague meetings and created an atmosphere of genuine sharing.

 

Great things happened during that group.  People came together, respected one another and honored each other’s points of view.  It brought us together much better than any climb up a tree.  I told myself that I would one day help people do what I did that day with my co-workers.  So over the years I developed a model that incorporated elements of that workshop with my own background in human behavior and motivation.  

 

I’m happy to say that I now have the privilege of helping people go to that deeper level.  I’ve built my expertise by facilitating many groups with many different types of organizations.  I’ve found that the principles I use work well for groups that want to build a high level of respect and cohesiveness along with caring for each other.  I’m a big fan of building empathy and self-awareness.  I ask people to take a careful look inside themselves during my workshops and seminars so that they can see how their behavior affects others.

 

The result is that I get to help people build great teams and let go of the garbage that gets in the way.  People enjoy team building at a deeper level because it gives them the opportunity to interact positively with each other.  It takes so much energy to be part of a dysfunctional team.  I just help people redirect that energy in a positive direction that gives them far better results.

 

I work almost exclusively with leaders and organizations who “get it” about the benefits of team building like increased morale, collaboration and productivity as well as reduced conflict.  It takes a high level of commitment and self-awareness to participate in my workshops and seminars but the results are worth the effort.
